Dave Kissoondoyal, a member of Zamana, met Swadicq Peerally, a founder of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), who came back to Mauritius from the United Kingdom. He says that the MMM was created in the home of Prem Nababsing in Quatre Bornes with his wife, Vidula Nababsing, Paul Berenger, Dev Virahsawmy, etc.
The first MMM rally was held in the city of Quatre Bornes and was marked by the colour purple and the use of a heart symbol. He also says that it was the unionised workers of the General Workers Federation (GWF) who created the MMM.
Swadicq Peerally was a member of the party's Political Bureau and the editor of the newspaper Le Militant. He was in prison four times in the 1970s when he was an activist.
