Krithee Goburdhun and Swadicq Peerally talk about the MMM from the very beginning

In this video produced by Zamana member Dave Kissoondoyal, Krithee Kumar Goburdhun, founding member of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), explains how the party was created and took shape. He recounts how the organisation was formed when the main leaders were in prison for political reasons or when Paul Berenger was away from Mauritius studying. Krithee Goburdhun also names the first members of the MMM.

Swadicq Peerally, another founding member, recalls the very first election in which the MMM participated in 1970, with Dev Virahsawmy as the winning candidate. He also explains the decisive role played by the General Workers Federation (GWF) in consolidating the presence of the Mauritian Militant Movement at the heart of public life. This dynamic helped shape the identity and growth of the MMM, which established itself as a key player during the 1970s.

Note: Paul Berenger studied in Wales (Bangor University) and not in England or Ireland, as mistakenly stated by our interviewees in this video.
